Research-use-only compounds are not drugs and are not for human or veterinary use. 503B office-stock items are compounded for in-office administration and do not require a patient-specific prescription; 503A items are patient-specific compounded prescriptions dispensed per patient. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved products and are dispensed only against a valid prescription when a licensed provider determines it is appropriate.
